Breaking The Waves - Anomic

Breaking The Waves Feature.

Band:  Anomic

Location: London, UK

Fans of epic prog metal, rejoice, for London’s Anomic are here! Born of members of Surrounded By Disgust and Fleshrot, the pair of Ashley and James have been beavering away on tracks throughout the year. “James and I have been in friends for years and have been in a few bands together in the past. As these bands came to an end, we decided to start to embark on this project,” says Ashley of the band’s progression. But with Anomic, comes a conscious desire to branch into new sonic territory for the pair. “Both of our previous bands had a completely different target and genre. James played a huge part in the creation of the Surrounded By Disgust sound. He has a natural style which of course he has brought with him. But overall I’d say we have branched out a long way since then.”

The handful of tracks should have any right-thinking metal fan drooling at the mouth, and the grandiose, ambitious style is something Ashley carries across into his lyrics. “I tend to lend myself better to concept work. This record has been inspired by ideas of creation, mortality and self-discovery.” But don’t take our word for it; he regularly updates a blog to keep us up to date on all things Anomic. “Most people by nature are nosy and not many bands give their fans a deep look into everything.” The guitarist and vocalist wants to bear all. The blog is a place where fans can read his lyrics and discover his blow-by-blow account of the recording process. “As this thing grows and the journey lengthens, it will be great to look back over it all and see how far we came.” Sadly, the blog reveals that the forthcoming album will be released in 2013. But fear not, the story will continue with Anomic in the flesh planned for the new year. “We’ve the ambition of creating something the metal genre has never seen live,” Ashley promises. “Speaking for myself I’d like to see it grow into an on-stage collective.”  Watch that blog!
