It has been four years in the making, but last year 'The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist ' reared its wondrously conceptual head, unfolding as beautiful and intricate as the most precious of ancient tapestry. Through channelling the essence of Immanuel Velikovsky into the album, Junius have managed to depict a flawless storyboard, woven into a musical intensity that invigorates the mind.

Although this album focuses on Velikovsky and his life, the sound that is created; the  poetical elements, and even the intermittent quotes, bear much relevancy to a current existence. Enveloped in charging drums, riffs that whirl and rush against acclimatising vocals, you journey through different states of mind, as each track rouses it’s own emotion. Anthemic ‘The Antediluvian Fire’, for example, presents marching drum beats that progresses into a thumping explosion that unites with a sonic ambience, building tension that is only heightened by ‘(A Dramatist Plays Catastrophist)’. Harrowing, but in an almost spiritual way; turmoil, anguish and lament begins to surge six minutes into ‘Ten Year Librarian’ and from this point a more ominous atmosphere is formed, intensified by the sustained narrative the quotes offer.
‘The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist’ is a potent delivery from a band that restore beauty in post-rock; adorned with an intelligent concept and songs that ingrain in the mind, this is a refined and exceptional record.
