Why does metal seem to have so much geography behind it? Norway has it's dark and gloomy black metal, Sweden has it's melodic death beauty and Chicago seems to be filled with a neighbourhood of violent thugs spitting out grind and death. Not that we're complaining, as Cardiac Arrest's latest album shows off their carniverous side that has been seeping it's way into the death metal mainstream. Despite being around for over a decade, it is only recently that Cardiac Arrest have started churning out albums and this third helping is definitely their best yet, despite a strong debut of 'Morgue Mutilations'.

The production and entire feel of this albm is raw and messy, on purpose and it works, giving off true vibes of nineties' DM without sticking in a mould like many of the viscious whippersnappers around today. The vocals are a lot more gutteral and grind influenced, while the riffs are nothing original and alone would stand weak.

The tracks wind through the album like blood around the body, changing pace to stop it sounding generic and plain boring. Tracks such as 'Haunted Remnants' pay tribute to Napalm Death's grind royalty while 'Uneartly Pleasures' has a more chugging groove to it, showcasing the slow and creepy horror themes that bleed throughout the album. Many have come along and tried to rip off the old school sounds of death, however Cardiac Arrest have been going for long enough to call it their own, their era as it were and therefore this attempt of raw brutality is definitely not one to be mocked by more crisp productions.
