Face Of Ruin

FACE OF RUIN – WITHIN THE INFINITE (6)

Up until now you’d be correct in thinking that the best thing Wisconsin ever produced was Lazarus AD or That 70’s Show – now we have progressive death metallers, Face of Ruin.  The summer has seen a double whammy of celebrations for the quintet – the digital release of their three track EP ‘Within the Infinite’ and they’ve also been signed by Extreme Management Group – so the full length studio album is imminent.

Despite being short and sweet in length, ‘Within the Infinite’ leaves one hell of an impression on the listener.  ‘Torture of Silence’ is full of experimental riffs, complex drum beats and Noah Mezsick’s backup vocals compliment Matt Bishop’s perfectly.  The title track oozes influences of The Black Dahlia Murder – perhaps a little too much; why listen to this when you can just put on the original?  ‘In The Depths of Blackness’ makes up for this blatant plagiarism with interesting time signatures and some catchy as hell riffs and then it’s over – as quickly as it began.  Needless to say, it will certainly be interesting to see what these guys produce as a full length album.  Only time will tell.
