Bush Hall, London

To many, Somerset progressive indie heroes The Pineapple Thief remain criminally underrated on these shores and beyond. Indeed, Porcupine Tree’s Steve Wilson’s presence at the Bush Hall tonight says all that needs to said on the pedigree of a band more than a decade into its career, and there is an elated mood in the air as numerous friends, fans and family members congregate to celebrate the release of new Thief opus, ‘Someone Here Is Missing’.

After something of a false start threatens to derail the evening thanks to a brief technical fault after the opening song, things soon get firmly underway with a healthy mixture of old favourites and promising cuts from the much-hyped newie - and it is all lapped up by an enthusiastic Shepherds Bush crowd. There are more dynamic frontmen in the world than Thief founding father Bruce Soord, but the enthusiasm he exudes for his music cannot be doubted - this is his baby, and tonight is his night more than anyone else’s. Of course, the rest of the band are as tight as ever, and few will leave Bush Hall tonight without feeling that there is still much to look forward to from Yeovil’s finest.
