With one EP released this year to their name, Oblivionized appear very comfortable in the live environment. With belligerent brutal death metal bred with grind style drumming and raspy vocals, the band leaves a decent impression on the beer-soaked audience, despite the muted guitar sound.
Garnering an abundance of attention since the addition of female vocalist Simone Pluijmers, Scotland’s Cerebral Bore leads the congregation to the church of brutality. Although their brand of brutal death metal may be insipid and stale, the novelty of having a female vocalist performing pig squeals and exhales perfectly sustains the attention a little longer.
With the crowd thinning out for the night, Severe Torture still put on a dynamic show. Their meat and potatoes death metal adheres to a standard formula but with well-positioned solos and catch-your-breath moments of sinister melody. Although the music is devoid of any fancy technicality that is evident in most modern death metal bands, Severe Torture have composed their songs in such a way to ensure maximum brutality without excessive slam passages or blurry guitar riffs. Prime cuts are delivered from their latest full-length ‘Slaughtered’, such as the title track and ‘Grave Condition’ alongside older numbers, including the visceral ‘Buried Hatchet’ and ‘Dismal Perception’. A few tracks pass before a mosh pit breaks out and for this, the band appears gracious. As their set comes to an end, the Dutchmen thank the English hordes for staying up so late to catch Severe Torture’s overdue return to the UK.
